Who Knew?

So, I started watching that new show Extreme Couponing. I'm sure you know the one I'm talking about. The show where a family goes into a grocery store and walks out with $1500 worth of groceries for $5?

So, I figured, why not? I mean, cutting out coupons and researching deals doesn't actually cost me anything, so why not give it a try? The most I will be out is a bit of my time, which in the end isn't really all that valuable. :)

Well, in the space of two shops and less than a week, I've already saved $76! Holy crow, who knew??

Since I'm in Canada, it's a bit more difficult to find the great deals than it is in the States. But, with some hard work and a bit of effort, it can be done. I'm not likely to ever see the savings that these people on Extreme Couponing get (although, as with every show, I'm sure that these giant savings aren't exactly the norm for them), but if I can even save the family $50 per shop, that's $1300 per year. And my goal is much more than that.

Our bi-weekly shopping bill is about $350 for a family of 4. My ultimate goal, using coupons, is to get that down to around $100, which would be $50/week. I know it won't happen overnight, it's going to take time and work, but that is what I want to do.

Like most, the recession has hurt us financially. I have tried many ways to make money while being a SAHM, but nothing is working. So, I'm refocusing my energies on saving money, rather than making it. So far, in one week, I've saved us more money than I made last month. Crazy, right?
